"It was truly amazing, to think that somebody had come that far to save us."

An Irish man and French woman have been dramatically rescued from their yacht amid "waves the size of buildings" near Sydney, Australia on Tuesday morning.

The vessel had suffered a broken rudder on 4 March and was being monitored by the Australian JRCC.

However on 7 March, as weather worsened and radio communications failed, the EPIRB on the vessel was activated.

The police vessel with "absolute heroes" aboard coming to the rescue took 14 hours to reach the yacht in rough and difficult seas.
